Social nights (and days)

Just got home from a whole day of “lakwatcha” with Ben. Met mid-morning and went to Baywalk supposedly to watch Dan and cheer him on during the dragonboat rowing competitions, of the “4th Summer Sea Sports” at Manila Bay. I say “supposedly” coz when we got there, Dan was nowhere to be found! Turns out his team competed earlier and when we arrived, he was already on his way to another appointment. Hay naku! So what to do next? Had to escape the scorching summer heat, so proceeded to our favorite mall and watched “In Good Company”. But not before snacking on my favorite Ice Monster treat, Strawberry Ice. Yum yum…

Anyway, the movie was pretty good, not the usual “boy gets girl” romantic, happy ending, but still generally a “feel good” movie. Our favorite line from the movie? When Carter (Topher Grace) asks Dan (Dennis Quaid) the secret of a long, happy marriage, Dan replies, “It’s a matter of finding someone you’d like to spend time in a foxhole with. Then when you’re out of the foxhole, making sure you keep your dick in your pants”. Makes sense. :)

After the movie, had a hearty meal at a Greek restaurant. Had hummus, pita bread, gyro sandwich (shawarma) and pasta with salmon & asparagus. Heavenly! Gosh, still feel so full from that binge. (Burp! 'scuse me...)

Thinking about it now, our bingeing started last night. Yesterday, suddenly had a whim to go out with friends so after a few sms messages between us, met after work for dinner at Italianni’s. Eat to death! Imagine, big bowls of pasta and salad, all the bread we could eat, all the dalandan juice we could drink, and a huge slice of chocolate cake to end that meal. :) All of us feeling bloated from that definitely heavy meal, we all plodded towards finding a cup of coffee. But a few more minutes, and instead of coffee, we were poring/pouring over drinks. A strawberry crush for me, please. :)

Eating for Filipinos is really a social activity. Just with my friends, it seems that our get-togethers are never complete unless we have a meal (or two!) to share. I can’t decide whether the food is better with friends, or being with friends is better with food! Anyhoo, it’s both true! :D

Oops, got to scoot! Attending the 6:00 p.m. mass with Paolo.
